Mohamed Salah’s dressing room prank on Andy Robertson ‘caught by VAR’

The Premier League has been inundated with VAR controversies so far this season, and Liverpool witnessed one more at their training ground after Mohamed Salah attempted to deceive Andrew Robertson.

Jurgen Klopp's men were preparing to head out for a training session at the club's Kirkby complex when the controversy occurred. Robertson had his back turned to team-mate Salah when the Egyptian threw the remnants from a cup of water over his back.

Salah initially proved too quick for his club comrade and hastily turned before feigning innocence over the act. The target can be heard exclaiming off-camera at the crime and quickly set to work in an attempt to find out whom was responsible for the soaking.

Left-back Robertson cottoned on quick and called 'Mohamed!' before a sheepish-looking Salah insisted he was not to blame. While his pace may get him out of most tight situations on-field, Salah appeared to be caught wet-handed on this particular occasion.

"No chance," came the response from Salah, offering his hands up in a dishonest attempt to get clear of his accuser. But Robertson made use of the witnesses at his disposal to swiftly discern whether the Reds talisman was telling the truth.

Turning to the club's videographer, the Scotland star asked whom hurled the H2O, rooting out Salah as the guilty party. "Mohamed – guilty," proclaimed the defender. "Your card is marked, Mohamed!"

Robertson proceeded to go shoulder-to-shoulder with Salah, playfully throwing his chest into the speedster before laughing the matter off. It's easy to understand why the mood around Kirkby might be more light-hearted of late given Liverpool's recent resurgence.

Klopp's side have gone from a recent five-game winless run to winning back-to-back Premier League games and reviving the slimmest of hopes for a top-four finish. They boast a game in hand over Sunday's opponents, Tottenham, and can move a point ahead of Spurs as high as fifth if they take all three points at Anfield.

The timely return of Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo coming into his own have been two significant factors in the change of fortunes. Salah and Robertson have remained pivotal figures all the while, however, and remain key to the cause as Liverpool targets a return to title contention next term.

Fans will be hugely encouraged to see the camaraderie between team-mates flourishing despite this season's struggles. Players were able to laugh off the VAR stakes on this occasion, though West Ham fans weren't saying the same following Wednesday's 2-1 loss at home to the Reds.
