Mo Salah produces ‘miss of season’ as Liverpool ace’s tap-in goes horribly wrong

Mohamed Salah has produced a ‘miss of the season’ contender already after skying his open net tap-in against Bournemouth.

Liverpool annihilated the Cherries at Anfield in a 9-0 victory which saw them equal the record for the biggest ever Premier League win in history. Harvey Elliott, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Fabio Carvalho all scored, while Luis Diaz and Roberto Firmino grabbed braces.

But a notable absentee from the scoresheet was talisman Salah, much to the agony of Fantasy Premier League players up and down the country. Yet it was not for the want of trying as the ‘Egyptian King’ missed a certified howler.

With the Reds up by two in the 17th minute, Elliott played a peach of a ball across the six yard box for the forward to tap in. Salah attacked the ball but bizarrely attempted to meet it with his stronger left boot.

That left him off balance as it appeared to come off his shin and fly over the crossbar. The 53,000 strong crowd and Salah’s teammates were left as stunned as each other by a rare miss from the man who netted 23 league goals last season.

And that triggered an instant reaction from fans on Twitter, with one user writing: “HOW has Salah missed that.”

Another tweeted: “Salah with Miss of the Season,” while a third explained: “Perfectly understandable to miss one of these glaring chances once in a while, the way he’s playing and creating it seems like one for him is inevitable.”

Yet as Liverpool continued to dismantle Scott Parker’s side in the latter stages, lightning struck twice in the form of another missed sitter.

At 7-0 up, Salah was played through by a delicate lofted ball from Jordan Henderson. The Egyptian controlled it exquisitely but once again rocketed his effort over the bar.

Fortunately, his teammates were able to compensate for his lack of shooting boots on this occasion by scoring two more. But knowing the Ballon d’Or contender's thirst for goals, he will surely be ruing both misses post-game.
