Mikel Arteta holds talks with Arsene Wenger about returning to Arsenal
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has held talks with legendary manager Arsene Wenger over a sensational return to the club.
Wenger, 72, left the Gunners in 2018 after spending 22 years as the club's manager.
The Frenchman won three Premier League titles, seven FA Cups and reached one Champions League final during his time in charge of the north Londoners.
He departed three years ago after supporters demanded for him to go, despite his iconic status at the Emirates. His replacement, Unai Emery, lasted just 18 months in charge before being replaced by Arteta.
The Spaniard spent five seasons under Wenger at Arsenal, during which time he was made club captain.
Now the club's manager, the Arteta is keen to have his former manager involved in some capacity.
"We would be delighted to have him much closer," Arteta told reporters.
"I think he would have a great time just seeing the environment that he can create around him when he's around this place because of the respect, admiration and the love that everybody at the club has for what he's done, as well as for what he represents as a person."

Arteta revealed there had been some "communication" with Wenger when pressed if a formal offer had been put to the Frenchman, who now currently serves as FIFA's Chief of Global Football Development.
But he would not be drawn on what role Wenger would have if he returned.
"What I can say is that I would like him to be much closer, personally, to me because I think it would be a great help, I think it would be a great help for the club," he added.
"Things take time and I think he has to dictate those timings. What I can say is from my side and I can say, I think, on behalf of everybody, is that we would be delighted to have him much closer."
