Mike Phelan was heard raging at Manchester United star Edinson Cavani from the touchline during the win over Liverpool.
The Red Devils battled hard for a 3-2 win over their rivals, reaching the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were leading the game after an hour through strikes from Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford to counter Mohamed Salah’s first-half goal .
But Cavani’s sloppy pass to Scott McTominay was intercepted by James Milner, feeding Roberto Firmino before the Egyptian smashed in from close range.
And the equaliser brought a furious reaction from United’s assistant coach Phelan.
The 58-year-old was heard yelling at the Uruguayan forward for his error after the ball hit the back of the net.
United’s No.7 was able to rally back, though, as he the foul that led to Bruno Fernandes’ sensational free kick to win the game on 78 minutes.
And the 33-year-old even had the chance to make it four late on, heading the midfielder’s cross onto the bottom of the upright.
Cavani made his 17th appearance for the club since arriving over the summer as a free agent from PSG.
He has become a regular starter in the Premier League squad, playing the full 90 in five of their last three games.
And the Uruguayan has found a scoring touch, scoring five goals and making two assists to help his side reach the top of the table.
Their win against Liverpool means United will take on West Ham in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
And Solskjaer was delighted with his side’s performance, telling the BBC : “They were brilliant.
“When you go down, the reaction of everyone.. We really played some good stuff in periods. Good goals we scored.
“You have to defend well against them, of course. I thought we managed to react well and of course towards the end there were always some moments, but we kept them away. “
But it was not a good day for Donny van de Beek, whose performance against Liverpool left United fans in agreement over the struggling midfielder.
