Mido gives excuse for infamous Crossbar Challenge but not everyone is convinced
Mido has given an excuse for his infamous Crossbar Challenge attempt – but not everyone is convinced by his reasoning.
The Premier League cult hero produced one of the worst efforts in the history of the Soccer AM segment during his time at Wigan Athletic back in 2009. Instead of crashing off the woodwork, Mido's shot soared some distance wide of the goal as the camera panned to show the ball bouncing off towards a building by the side of the training pitch.
Fourteen years on from his infamous effort, Mido has now given a reason why his strike went so far wide of the target.

Responding to a post re-sharing footage of his attempt, the Egyptian wrote on Twitter: "Again… my driver's dream was to appear on TV… but shot the ball towards him so he can be on TV… I would do it again and again watch how happy he is."
However, Mido's claim that he purposely aimed for the building so that his driver could be on television has split fans on whether they believe him or not.
Do you believe Mido's excuse? Let us know in the comments section below.
One supporter replied: "What is this lie?" Another added: "Naa I still think it was the ultimate shank." Meanwhile, a third also commented: "What a lousy excuse hahaha."
Others did believe him, though, with one joking: "Technical baller was Mido. Can tell he meant it." Another said: "The mystery is solved lol." His excuse was also enough for this fan, who added: "You know what, I believe him."
Mido only spent five months with Wigan after joining the club on loan from Middlesbrough in January 2009, scoring twice in 12 appearances for the Latics.

As well as Wigan and Boro, he also appeared in the Premier League for Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, scoring 22 goals across 94 appearances in the top flight.
Fans were shocked by Mido's body transformation in the years after his retirement, though, after he ballooned in weight to leave himself unrecognisable from the prime of his playing career.
He has since shifted much of the weight, with his remarkable weight loss leaving supporters who had become accustomed to his larger physique gobsmacked.
Taking on the advice of a doctor, Mido amazingly lost 50kg in under a year after weighing in at more than heavyweight champion Tyson Fury at one point.
