Michail Antonio ‘bottles’ podcast after Liverpool prediction ends in ‘shambles’

Michail Antonio “bottled” appearing on his own podcast after his wild Liverpool prediction ended in “shambles”.

The West Ham striker sparked outrage with his comments on the Footballer’s Football Podcast last week. The 33-year-old boldly backed the Hammers ahead of Sunday’s visit to Anfield, before claiming his side would even finish ahead of Liverpool this season.

Rather embarrassingly for Antonio, the east Londoners would suffer a 3-1 defeat, in which he failed to score and was substituted before the final 15 minutes. And the Jamaican international understandably opted not to appear on his weekly podcast with Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson after being left with egg on his face.

Wilson kicked off the podcast by referencing Antonio’s absence, saying: “Has he run away after his shambles of a performance? He has come with a very blunt prediction and, for me, I’m not a Liverpool fan but I received a lot of messages from people who do support Liverpool.”

“[Adebayo] Akinfenwa even put a post on his Instagram, sending a few shots about him,” the Newcastle man added, before host Rickie Haywood-Williams played the audio of Antonio’s Liverpool opinions.

The pair laughed as they listened back, with Wilson saying: "For me, Michail is Michail and he’s not here to defend himself, which is a difficult one. When you put a statement out like that…” while Haywood-Williams replied: “He’s bottled it Cal, he’s bottled it.”

Wilson added: “If he had said that statement and they had gone on and beat Liverpool, Michail would be sitting here tonight under any circumstances. The fact he made that prediction, went out there and had no goals, no assists, no shots on target, no aerial duels won; he lost the ball ten times and played 74 minutes and then got dragged.

“If it was me, I wouldn’t show my face either! He would be dialling in from his team hotel [if he was right], that’s a fact.”

West Ham are currently seventh in the Premier League after the defeat, while Jurgen Klopp’s side are up in second. Antonio was not involved in the Irons squad that sealed a 1-0 win away at Lincoln City on Wednesday, having been rested by David Moyes.
