Michael Owen surprisingly slams Jesse Lingard after Man Utd win at West Ham

Michael Owen was left strangely upset by Jesse Lingard’s decision not to wildly celebrate his winner for Manchester United against West Ham on Sunday, saying the ‘poor’ choice from the England star let himself down.

Lingard came off the bench in east London and curled in a superb goal in the 89th minute to give his side a 2-1 victory, a win which was also thanks to a stoppage time penalty save from David de Gea.

The 28-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham, scoring nine goals in 16 appearances in a fantastic spell at the club which reignited his floundering career.

As such, he chose not to celebrate excessively, despite the satisfying goal which helped make up for his error which cost the Red Devils in their Champions League defeat to Young Boys earlier in the week.

Owen, though, was not impressed, saying he ‘can’t believe’ that someone would choose not to celebrate a goal, whatever the circumstances.

‘The finish is absolutely sublime,’ Owen told Premier League Productions. ‘The only thing that is poor about the whole scenario is that he doesn’t celebrate.
