Micah Richards says direction Liverpool have gone down is "staggering"
Former Manchester City star Micah Richards says the direction Liverpool have gone in since appointing Jurgen Klopp is "staggering."
The Reds are a club transformed since Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers in 2015, winning the Premier League and Champions League and consistently challenging for honours both at home and abroad.
Prior to the German's arrival, Liverpool had narrowly missed out on winning the title in 2014 but otherwise recorded a succession of dismal upper mid-table finishes under Rodgers and Roy Hodgson.
Through smart recruitment, excellent man management and an infectious spirit that permeates right throughout the club, Klopp has turned Liverpool into winners again – and not before time.
Richards, who was still playing at Aston Villa when Klopp took over at Anfield, finds it hard to believe how far Liverpool have come since the manager's first day in the job.
Speaking ahead of the clash between the Reds and Manchester City on Sunday, Richards told Sky Sports: "It’s absolutely staggering, when Klopp came in nobody knew what direction Liverpool were going to go.
"I spoke to Jamie a lot about where did he think they’ll, not even he could imagine how well they would’ve done gone and won the Champions League, gone and won the Premier League bringing it back after how many years.
"Giving them something to shout about, it’s always been a tough place to come for City to match that is phenomenal. Both sides incredible."

Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United are all vying for the title this season, and Jamie Carragher believes his former club has what it takes to emerge on top.
When asked who he thought would win the title, Carragher said: "I think it’s Liverpool, just for the fact that the games City have already played, they’ve had a tough start and they’re still obviously right at the top.
"If they win they go joint top with Chelsea but they’ve played Spurs been away to Chelsea and Liverpool.
"I think if Liverpool are to reclaim the title back looking on past experience when they won the Premier League they need to create a gap with City, four points at this early stage is a decent gap, they’re still the team."
