Messi’s PSG move now ‘officially concluded’, says brother of the Emir of Qatar
Lionel Messi is closer than ever to joining PSG, with his move to the Parc des Princes seemingly racing along.
Daily Star Sport told yesterday of how the Argentinian had been offered a two-year deal following his exit from Barcelona.
Messi is a free agent and PSG are willing to hand him £500,000-a-week until the summer of 2023.
Should the 34-year-old agree terms and put pen to paper soon, it will see him reunite with former Barcelona team-mate Neymar in Paris.
Plans are being put in place for the rich Ligue 1 club to even announce the stunning capture of Messi, with a presentation at the Eiffel Tower rumoured to be a possibility.
While PSG are closing in on a deal, it appears they could well be on the verge of even completing the signing of Messi.
On Twitter, the brother of the Emir of Qatar has confirmed that the Argentine is signing for PSG.
Khalid bin Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, who is the brother of the Emir who owns PSG, confirmed in a social media post the negotiations with Messi were complete.
And he suggested an announcement will soon follow, meaning Messi could be a PSG player as soon as this coming week.
How will Lionel Messi fare at PSG? Let us know in the comments section.
"Negotiations are officially concluded, there will be an announcement later #Messi," Al-Thani posted on Twitter.
Ex-Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola had ruled Manchester City out of the running on Friday afternoon, while confirming his team were still hunting Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
Few clubs could realistically afford to sign Messi in world football, especially off the back of the Covid-19 pandemic, beyond PSG and City.
Barcelona were forced to scrap their bid to renew Messi’s deal due to Financial Fair Play regulations and La Liga rules.
As a result, PSG have almost had a free run at Messi, and he looks poised to soon team up with the likes of ex-Real Madrid rival Sergio Ramos and former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino in France.
PSG return to Ligue 1 action for the start of the 2021/22 season tonight as they travel to play Troyes at 8pm.
Ahead of the game, Pochettino said: “We know what happened yesterday between Messi and Barca… but we are fully focused on beating Troyes.
“[President] Nasser [El Khelaifi] and [sporting director] Leonardo are working hard to improve the team."
