Messi the ‘undisputed GOAT’ with World Cup win as ‘jobless’ Ronaldo sits at home

Football fans have hailed Lionel Messi winning the World Cup – while Cristiano Ronaldo sits "jobless" at home.

Messi finally got his hands on the World Cup trophy on Sunday evening after inspiring his side with two goals – and converting in the shoot-out. Many football fans believe that has finally settled the greatest of all time debate.

The result has put Messi clear from the likes of Pele, Diego Maradona, and Cristiano Ronaldo. And fans on social media were quick to fire shots at Ronaldo – who finds himself without a club having left Manchester United following his tell-all interview.

One fan joked, with a goat emoji: "Messi leading his team to win the World Cup while Ronaldo is at home unemployed!"

"Messi lifting the World Cup trophy while Ronaldo is at home doing some extra lat pull downs ahead of a move to Saudi Arabia," a second joked. While a third added: "Ronaldo being sat at home after stinking it up all tournament makes this Messi win so much more distinct!"

And a fourth laughed: Imagine being Ronaldo, man is jobless and just saw his nemesis win the World Cup!"

Ronaldo crashed out of the World Cup in the quarter-finals to Morocco – who created history by becoming the first African nation to navigate the quarters and make the semi-finals.

And as Ronaldo hoped on a plane home, it wasn't to Manchester, who he left mid-way through the tournament. Ronaldo's future is still up in the air as the New Year appears on the horizon, but a move to the Middle East seems to be the most plausible.
