Messi suspended by PSG after flying to Saudi Arabia without permission
Lionel Messi caps brilliant year with FIFA The Best success
According to ESPN, PSG stars were informed by manager Christophe Galtier last week that all players would be given two days off (Monday and Tuesday) if they beat Lorient on Sunday. However, the Ligue 1 side were comfortably beaten in one of their poorest displays of the campaign.
Goals from Enzo Le Fee, Darline Yongwa and Bamba Dieng ensured that PSG were handed their sixth defeat of the season and thus the planned days off were scrapped. However, Messi had previously been granted permission to travel to Saudi Arabia by the higher powers at the club to ‘honour’ his sponsorship agreement on those days – though that green light was given on the terms that he could only go if his side were to have been victorious.
It has now been reported that Messi travelled to the Middle East regardless of the outcome, missing training on Monday and potentially Tuesday’s sessions. Tension brewed in the dressing room in the absence of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, with some individuals left feeling very unhappy.
After much deliberation, including talks over a significant fine, the higher powers at PSG have decided to take action. Fabrizio Romano reports that Le Parc des Princes outfit have reacted by handing Messi a two-week suspension, unimpressed by the conduct of their No 30.
The player and his entourage are still waiting to learn of the punishment, with PSG putting their future contract talks with the player into serious jeopardy in order to set a precedent.
