Though he wasn’t able to participate in their recent Ligue 1 match, Lionel Messi showed support for his PSG team-mates on Wednesday night.

As the Parisian giants made their return to domestic action against Strasbourg – following the World Cup break – the Argentina captain was nowhere to be seen within the Parc des Princes.

His team-mates Neymar and Kylian Mbappe – who starred in the World Cup final just 10 days ago – started the fixture however Messi remained in Argentina, but that didn’t stop him from tuning in to the match and showing support.

As PSG battled away for a 2-1 win against their Ligue 1 opponents, Messi took to social media to show fans that he was supporting from afar.

The World Cup winner shared a picture of his TV in Argentina, which had the Parisians’ match on-screen and he added a simple tag of ‘@PSG’.

Christophe Galtier’s side wrapped up three points thanks to goals from Marquinhos and Kylian Mbappe – after the Brazil defender had also scored an own-goal.

Mbappe, 24, returned to action just 10 days after suffering defeat in the World Cup final despite scoring a hat-trick in the match for France.

Brazil winger Neymar also featured in the match and provided enthralling entertainment after producing a brilliant nutmeg before being sent off for a dive.

Messi is still taking time off after celebrating Argentina’s World Cup triumph earlier this month

There had been no expectations for Messi to feature in the game after he was filmed continuing his post-World Cup celebrations at his niece’s 15th birthday party.

Messi – who was instrumental in Argentina’s World Cup success – was seen dancing away to the anthem played after their semi-final win over Croatia.

Having been mobbed by supporters on his way to the birthday party, Messi appeared to be enjoying the peacefulness of just being surrounded by his family.

The superstar had returned to his native Rosario after spending 24 hours or so in Buenos Aires at the side’s parade.
