Mega release clause in Haaland’s contract can only be triggered by certain clubs
There is a release clause in Erling Haaland's contract that will allow him to leave Manchester City in just two years time – and there is nothing that the club can do about it.
However, that clause will come into effect at a whopping £175million and will only be available to clubs outside of the Premier League, according to The Athletic. That total, though, will worryingly creep down as the years plod on by.
It means that Haaland's time at the Etihad might not be as long as they would hope – though he is not wasting time making an impact in the Premier League already. The Norway international signed for the champions in the summer for a fee of around £51m.

But with agent fees and signing-on bonuses included, that number actually became closer to £85m. It has been quite the start for the 22-year-old, who returned to the club where his father Alfie played for three years from 2000 to 2003.
However, his son has already had arguably a larger impact after scoring 20 times in just 13 times – including 15 in the Premier League and five in the Champions League.
Real Madrid are long-term admirers in the striker and will no doubt be plotting a way to sign him when his release clause becomes active.

But The Athletic further report that the former Borussia Dortmund star is very happy at the Etihad and is enjoying life in the Premier League.
That can change over the course of a few years, though, after his father already admitted that he wants his son to play in as many leagues in Europe as possible.
He said in September: "I think that Erling [Haaland] wants to test out his capabilities in every league. Then he can stay in every league for three to four years maximum."
