McTominay’s improvement in training detailed as Man Utd star’s "killing" praised
Scott McTominy has undergone a mentality shift in training with Manchester United goalkeeper Lee Grant claiming he's trying to "kill the ball"
The back-up shot stopper was discussing who had the hardest shot at Carrington.
Grant finds himself behind the likes of David de Gea and Dean Henderson in the pecking order, but is regularly involving in training.
And he admitted that McTominay and front man Marcus Rashford are hitting shots harder than any of their team-mates.
He told the club's official website : "We’ve got two players in particular at the moment who are standouts for how hard they hit the ball.
"One in particular annoys me because in the last six months he’s been hitting the ball even harder than he was previously.
"Scott McTominay is leathering his shots in training.
"Scott’s mentality seems to have switched to: I’m gonna kill this ball, I want to explode this ball if I can.
"The secondary aspect of that is that the ball ends up flying in the back of the net a lot more.
"Long may it continue, this scoring run he’s on, even if it can be frustrating for us goalkeepers!"
McTominay has enjoyed the best goalscoring season of his career so far.
He's notched on seven occasions which included a brace against Leeds.
The 24-year-old is usually deployed as a defensive midfielder with Bruno Fernandes given license to roam in the final third.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently called on McTominay to contribute more in the box and chip in with more goals.
“Adding goals from midfield is vital. Last season our three forwards were brilliant and scored goals, 60 odd, and Bruno came in and scored goals,” he said.
“But we needed more goals from midfield. Scott has the ability to go box-to-box and he used to be a striker.
“If Scott can get to double figures that would be a very good season for a so called defensive midfielder."
