McTominay ‘better than Weghorst’ say Man Utd fans after Scotland goal salvo
Manchester United fans have joked that Scott McTominay is a better goal scorer than Wout Weghorst after he bagged a brace against Cyprus.
The Red Devils midfielder netted in the 87th and then the 93rd minute to push Scotland's Group A Euro 2024 qualifying tie beyond the clutches of Cyprus on Saturday, as the home side ran out 3-0 winners. Meanwhile, although Weghorst came off the bench on Friday evening, the Dutchman was powerless to stop France tearing apart Netherlands in a 4-0 rout.
Weghorst joined United on loan from Burnley in January – but the big man has struggled in front of goal at Old Trafford. The former Burnley striker has scored twice for the Red Devils since his move: once in the Europa League and another in the Carabao Cup final.

One fan joked: "Not being funny but would rather have McTominay upfront than Weghorst. It’s not a massive stretch when McTominay started his career as a striker. He’s just a shocking midfielder!"
"Hear me out, McTominay as a 9 instead of Weghorst," a second added. While a third tweeted: "Mctominay got more goal threat than Weghorst. Fair enough…"
"I really wanna see McTominay play the role that Weghorst plays for just half an hour. It won't happen, but he can't be much worse," a fourth joked. And another added: "Now a CDM but still a better striker than Weghorst!"

McTominay himself has struggled to establish himself in the side under Erik ten Hag – who has preferred to play Casemiro at the base of his midfield.
The Brazilian has rolled back the years in Manchester, often being one of the best performers on the field, since his summer move from Real Madrid.
