- Kylian Mbappe’s contract at Paris Saint-Germain expires in the summer of 2022
- Real Madrid are keen to sign him but could be forced to sell players to raise funds
- He has told Mauricio Pochettino that he wants to play on left of PSG’s attack
- If he joins Real Madrid, Eden Hazard could be forced into ‘reinventing’ himself
- Mbappe would look to take the Belgian superstar’s role in the starting XI
Real Madrid’s long-term plan to lure Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain could threaten Eden Hazard’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Spanish publication AS have previously reported that Real’s ‘Operation Mbappe’ plan is approaching its moment of truth – with the striker’s PSG contract expiring at the end of next season.
It means there will just be one year left on his deal this summer, and that clubs could snap up the world superstar on a free if he doesn’t sign a new contract with the French champions by January 2022.

Should Mbappe join Real Madrid it could directly impact the future of Belgian Eden Hazard
AS have now reported that Real Madrid’s decision to go for Mbappe could ‘sentence’ Hazard, as the Frenchman would look to take his place on the left of their attack.
Mbappe is convinced that the left side is his place on the field and is said to have told current PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino where he stands on the matter.
When Pochettino arrived at the club, he had a conversation with the attacker on tactical alternatives he had considered for the Frenchman.
However, Mbappe reportedly ‘refused’ to play on the right-wing, was ‘losing potential’ as a centre-forward and therefore was most comfortable on the left.
Hazard joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in July 2019 for a fee of £88m which could rise up to a staggering £150m.
The move came in the aftermath of Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the club, and Hazard was seen to be the man to take Los Blancos forward.
While Karim Benzema has taken on much of the goalscoring responsibility, Hazard’s career at the Bernabeu has been affected by injuries.
Since his arrival, he has missed more than 40 matches due to different problems and has suffered a loss of form and confidence.

If Mbappe decides to join Madrid, AS state that it would force the Belgian to ‘reinvent himself’ and be forced into playing in a different position.
PSG have no desire to lose Mbappe, but if the 22-year-old refuses to sign a new contract they could be forced to reassess his situation in the summer.
AS say Real are confident Mbappe will want to move to Spain. They claim that the club’s president, Florentino Perez, has had close contact with PSG’s Qatari owners and has worked to forge a close relationship with them. At times, he has apparently contacted them to dismiss reports in the past linking them with a move for Neymar and even Mbappe.
The Spanish giants are hoping their policy of appeasement will now come good but there is, of course, a mega financial side to things that Real also need to sort as it could cost a fee of £174m to sign Mbappe.
Few clubs have been as heavily impacted financially as Real have been over the course of the last year.

Gareth Bale’s future has long been away from the Bernabeu but it remains to be seen if Tottenham decide to keep him for another season after an injury-hit campaign so far.
Isco has been linked with Arsenal and has had a bit-part role under Zinedine Zidane this season.
Dani Ceballos is on his second straight season-long loan at Arsenal at present, while striker Luka Jovic, midfielder Brahim Diaz and defender Marcelo are all deemed to be on their way out to raise money for Mbappe, according to AS.
Real are also anticipating a return of supporters in the 2021-22 campaign which will allow their revenue to return to what it was before the Covid-19 pandemic.
