Kylian Mbappe has offered Achraf Hakimi a sporting gesture after his France side beat Morocco in the World Cup semi-final.

Les Bleus triumphed 2-0 against the Atlas Lions on Wednesday evening thanks to goals from Theo Hernandez and Randal Kolo Muani.

Morocco stars including Hakimi were left distraught at the final whistle after their elimination – but the defender’s Paris Saint-Germain team-mate consoled him after the match, swapping shirts and embracing the 24-year-old on the pitch.

The superstar forward put on the match-worn jersey before jogging over to his team-mates and joining them in the joyful run over to the French supporters.

In the tunnel, Mbappe then sat next to Hakimi against the wall, before French president Emmanuel Macron spoke to the pair.

The battle between the duo was one of the defining ones of the match, with the right-back aiming to neutralise the left-sided forward.

Mbappe had said in January that he would have to ‘destroy’ his club colleague if and when they faced each other in Qatar.

The former Monaco attacker is joint-top in the World Cup Golden Boot race with five goals, level with Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

Les Bleus will now play Messi’s Argentina in the tournament showpiece on Sunday for the chance to retain their world crown.
