Mbappe ‘already had Real Madrid shirt number lined up’ before snub for PSG stay
Kylian Mbappe had a Real Madrid star's shirt number lined up in case he decided to join the Spanish giants.
The French superstar footballer is believed to have signed a contract extension at Paris St Germain after months of turbulent contract talks and rumours as question marks still lingered over his future. The shock decision is said to have been made today, with the wonderkid thought to be on the cusp of joining Los Blancos this week.
It has now been revealed, according to French news website Foot Mercato, that Luka Modric was prepared to give up his number 10 shirt for Mbappe. The striker currently wears number seven for the recently crowned French champions but typically wears number 10 for his country.
Modric, who has been at Real Madrid for a decade, was willing to hand over his shirt to Mbappe is set to announce his renewal, believed to be a three-year contract, this weekend. The 23-year-old is rumoured to have been offered a historic offer from PSG, with him supposedly being given increased authority at the club.
Real Madrid will now look elsewhere for a forward after the club missed out on Mbappe and Haaland in recent months, with the Norwegian striker announcing his intention to join Manchester City in the summer. Fans found the recent news hilarious, as people took to Twitter to enjoy the recent news that Mbappe had declined Real's offer.

One fan defended Mbappe's choice to stay put in Paris. He said: "Unpopular Opinion: Mbappe can do whatever he wants because it's his life and he's creating his own legacy."
Another fan is adamant the player will move "soon" despite the extension. They said: "Mbappe is 23, already won a World Cup n got to UCL final, French League isn't respected hence the move was better for his legacy but his career isn't over, people shouldn't expect Ronaldo [or] Messi from the next generation, their levels won't be reached again, he'll move soon anyway."
