Mauro Icardi’s rumoured exit from Paris Saint-Germain could be pushed harder in the coming months with reports emerging that he will leave PSG if he is to divorce his wife Wanda Nara – and with a move to Newcastle supposedly in the offing, it could be of interest to Magpies fans.
Icardi, 28, married Nara in 2013 after her split from the striker’s former Sampdoria team-mate Maxi Lopez.
The couple have two daughters together but their relationship is now in jeopardy according to Marca, with the television celebrity requesting a divorce.
According to the Spanish paper, the saga occurred on Saturday when Nara deleted every incident of Icardi from her Instagram and accused him of cheating with an actress, China Suarez.
And according to reports in Argentina, she has already requested a divorce.
Icardi has reportedly responded by threatening to walk away from PSG, which would affect Nara financially as the former Inter Milan striker has a contract until 2024.
Icardi initially took some time away from PSG training due to the ordeal, but now has been included in Les Parisiens squad for their crunch clash against RB Leipzig on Wednesday.
Although, if he does threaten to exit the club, newly-rich Newcastle could have some say in the matter as they look for a new striker.
Callum Wilson is their main talisman, although back-up option Joelinton has had a torrid career in the north east – and the new Saudi owners may look to sign Icardi as their marquee signing.
Icardi has scored 22 league goals for PSG in just 49 league games, however he’s seen his minutes diminish in recent years.
The Argentine’s best ever season was in 2017-18 where he scored 29 goals in 34 league games in Serie A for Inter Milan.
However, he has played a very much bit-part role in PSG’s system throughout the years, making just 73 appearances over the last two seasons and that could lead to a move to Tyneside.
Fabrizio Romano claimed last week that Icardi wasn’t looking to leave PSG, although that was before his family affair.
And the Italian confirmed Newcastle’s interest in the star.
“There were no approaches from Newcastle new board for Aaron Ramsey or Mauro Icardi as things stand now,” Romano said.
Newcastle look to get out of the relegation zone this week with a win against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
