Maurizio Sarri celebrates Lazio win over Roma by holding live eagle on pitch

Former Chelsea boss Mauricio Sarri celebrated in a unique way on Sunday evening after masterminding Lazio's victory over Roma.

The 'Derby della Capitale' is one of the most ferociously contested derbies in football, and the 21/22 edition lived up to expectations.

Sarri's side found the net three times, through Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Pedro, and Felipe Anderson, while Jose Mourinho's Roma were held to two goals.

And Lazio, who are nicknamed the Eagles, brought out a large bird of prey onto the field after full time.

Sarri held the bird aloft in front of the Curva Nord, the home of Lazio's ultras.

"Olympia sleeps close to my room at the Formello training ground, so I hear her sometimes," Sarri said after the game.

"I will admit, it was emotionally one of the most exhilarating matches of my career.

"I didn’t expect the derby to give you this adrenaline rush and satisfaction at winning.

"This is real football, it’s not a PlayStation game.

"Tonight I saw seven or eight situations that I really liked, but we cannot clone one team and make it work elsewhere."

Meanwhile, Mourinho's Roma came under criticism from the Italian press, and the Gazzetta Dello Sport fumed at Roma's 'surrender' to their bitter rivals.

The Special One channelled his inner Phil Brown when he kept the Giallorossi on the pitch to deliver his team talk after full time.

“What we said stays between us. I wanted to immediately do the talk there, but with the same intimacy as the locker room," he told DAZN.

“Let me say something positive first, which is that Italian football has improved a great deal from 10 years ago. The quality of football, the attacking approach, the desire to win, has all improved.”

Roma tumbled down to fourth in the Serie A, while Lazio closed the gap to their city rivals in sixth.

Elsewhere, Napoli continued their 100% start to the season with a 2-0 win against Cagliari.
