  • Matildas star rushed to congratulate them

Matildas star Katrina Gorry has announced her engagement to fellow footballer Clara Markstedt with a sweet post just weeks out from a historic home World Cup for Australia.

The pint-sized midfielder, who has earned over 93 caps for the Matildas as a crucial part of the side’s engine room, is also a mother-of-one to daughter Harper, who will shortly turn two.

Gorry, affectionately known as ‘Mini’, gave birth to her daughter solo via IVF, before making a stunning return to football.

That family has now grown to three, with Gorry saying a resounding yes to Markstedt’s proposal.

‘The best love stories never end. YES,’ the Matildas veteran posted on her social media account of the romantic proposal at a stunning seaside location.

The Aussie veteran has played 93 matches for the Matildas, and is set to be a crucial cog in the side’s upcoming home World Cup

‘She said YES! How did I get so lucky?’ wrote Markstedt, who is also a talented artist as well as a veteran of the high-quality Swedish league, the Damallsvenskan.

Matildas stars were quick to congratulate the popular veteran, 30, over the brilliant news.

‘I love this! I’m so happy for you both,’ wrote goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold, with Arsenal star Steph Catley saying: ‘STOP, So, so, so happy for you guys!’

Close mate and Matildas legend Michelle Heyman was also stoked with the news.

‘WOW!! Congratulations beautiful! This is the best news ever! I can’t wait to celebrate with you!’ the A-League Women’s star said.

Matildas teammates rushed to congratulate the loved-up couple on their engagement

The pair met while playing at Swedish club Vittsjö, and got together last year, with Matildas teammates Charlotte Grant and Tegan Micah taking up baby-sitting duties while the romance blossomed.

Both of the Matildas youngsters were over the moon at the happy moment.

‘CONGRATS TO MY FAVES,’ wrote Grant, with Micah commenting: ‘Couldn’t be more perfect together!’

It’s an exciting period for Gorry, with a home World Cup now just five weeks away, with the Matildas opening the tournament with a blockbuster clash against Ireland in front of a sold-out crowd at Sydney Olympic Park on July 20.

The veteran midfielder will be crucial in Australia’s push for a historic trophy under superstar skipper Sam Kerr, as she winds up her preparation in Sweden before heading Down Under.

After taking time out to go through the taxing IVF procedure solo and have Harper, Gorry’s return to the national fold has been nothing short of outstanding.

And she puts a lot of that down to her new fiance, who has completed the now-family-of-three beautifully.

‘I’m just so lucky that I have the family support that I do, because I would never be able to do any of this without them,’ she told Impetus earlier this year.

‘Having Clara has changed everything for Harper and I. She’s amazing with her, and Harper loves her more than anything.

‘It’s been tough some days, but it’s so rewarding just being able to do this and take Harper along for the journey.’
