Mateo Kovacic could be set to leave Chelsea in the summer, with Bayern Munich reportedly interested in securing the midfielder’s services.
The Croatia international has made just 15 Premier League starts as the Blues have endured one of their most disappointing campaigns in recent memory, despite significant investment from Todd Boehly in his first full season in charge.
With the club under pressure to ensure they can comply with Financial Fair Play Regulations several stars are expected to depart the club in once the transfer window opens.
According to a report from German publication Sport1, Kovacic is one of the players unhappy at the club, with German giants Bayern Munich touted as a possible destination should he depart.
Die Roten are currently led by former Blues boss Thomas Tuchel, and the German is set to be interested in strengthening his midfield options over the summer, with Kovacic having been identified as a top target, particularly if Ryan Gravenberch departs the club.

Kovacic played a crucial role in Chelsea’s Champions League win under Tuchel in 2021, appearing in ever game of the campaign up until the quarter final second leg where he was ruled out with a muscle injury.
The 28-year-old would return to fitness in time to feature in the final, appearing as a late substitute as the Blues defeated Manchester City in Porto courtesy of a goal from Kai Havertz.
The former Real Madrid star also speaks German after growing up in Austria and beginning his football career at Austrian Bundesliga club LASK.
However, despite having won ten consecutive top-flight titles, Die Roten are not without their own problems.
After taking a commanding lead at the top of the Bundesliga, Bayern suffered a poor spell of form leading to Julian Nagelsmann being dismissed and replaced by the former Chelsea boss in March.
Tuchel has endured a rocky start to his spell in charge of the club, punctuated by poor form on the pitch and controversy between his star-studded side off it.
