Mason Mount will be ‘sold in the summer’ if he can’t agree new Chelsea contract

Chelsea will sell Mason Mount in the summer if the midfielder fails to agree a contract extension.

Player and club have been locked in negotiations since the start of the season, with the Blues keen to nail Mount down to a long-term deal, similar to the one they handed team-mate Reece James in September.

Mount is keen to stay, but wants his salary to reflect his importance to the first team and is looking to be paid a similar weekly wage to that of fellow academy graduate James – something Chelsea are reportedly reluctant to agree to.

Mount will have just one year remaining on his contract come July, and according to The Athletic, Chelsea won't allow negotiations to run into next season.

If the the 24-year-old fails to sign an extension in the next few months, the Blues will look to get rid of him in order to avoid losing him for free in 2024.

A number of big clubs are understood to be monitoring Mount's contract situation, including Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool, all of whom will be ready to pounce should Chelsea put the player in the shop window.

If Mason Mount leaves Chelsea which club should he go to? Let us know in the comments section below.

Mount has had a disappointing season at Stamford Bridge, scoring just three times in 31 matches so far, and there's no doubt his poor form has been hindering contract negotiations.

For the first time since he broke into the Chelsea first team under Frank Lampard back in 2019, dropping the former Derby loanee doesn't feel all that controversial, especially with the plethora of attacking talent that has arrived at the club over the course of the season.

Still, Graham Potter remains a big Mount fan, as do Chelsea's match-going supporters, and it's understood the club are confident of tying him down, despite the lengthy stand-off.
