Mason Mount has sent an emotional message to Chelsea fans before joining Manchester United.

Speaking to his Instagram followers, the midfielder confirmed what supporters already knew by admitting that he had decided to leave the club, with terms over his £60million Old Trafford switch already agreed.

Showing off a new bleach-blonde hairstyle Mount began: "Hi Chelsea fans, given the speculation over the last six months, this may not come as a surpirse to you.

"But it doesn't make it any easier to tell you that I've made the decision to leave Chelsea. I feel you deserve more than just a written statement, so I wanted to tell you directly how grateful I've been for all of your support over the last 18 years.

"I know some of you won't be happy with my decision, but it's what is right for me at this moment in my career.

"I joined Chelsea when I was six years old and we've been through a lot together. Winning the youth cup, my player of the year awards, Super Cup the Club World Cup and of course that unforgettable night when we won the Champions League.

"I want to say thank you to the academy, Jim (Fraser) and Neil (Bath), for being so influential to me from such a young age.

Chelsea fans, give us your thoughts over the statement in the comments section below.

The managers I've worked under, Frank (Lampard), Thomas (Tuchel) and Graham (Potter), the backroom staff, the unsung heroes of Cobham, all of my team-mates over the years that have become my brothers.

"My family, for the continuous love and support and most importantly you guys for sticking with me throughout. Wish you all the best."

Mount has been under contract at Chelsea until the summer of 2024, but could have had fears over this playing time following a spending spree of £600million under Todd Boehly last summer.

The 24-year-old only made 24 Premier League appearances last time out, after 32, 36 and 37 across the previous three campaigns.

United, who unlike Chelsea will be competing in the Champions League next season, are looking to boost their title chances under Erik ten Hag.

Mount could make his official debut for the club in their Premier League opener against Wolves on August 14.
