Mason Mount left ‘wowed’ by Erik ten Hag – and it helped land £60million deal
Mason Mount's conversation with Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag may have been the deciding factor in the Chelsea star's move to Old Trafford.
Mount had only a year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge and was unlikely to renew, leaving United in pole position to sign him. Liverpool were the early frontrunners to land the England midfielder, but the Red Devils were his preferred option.
After personal terms were agreed, negotiations for a transfer fee proved difficult at first, but a total package of £60million was eventually settled between the two clubs.
Mount's move to Erik ten Hag's side is expected to be made official this week. The 24-year-old had his medical at United's Carrington training complex on Monday.

Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy has claimed that Mount was 'wowed' by Ten Hag's in-depth knowledge of his game and his appreciation for it in a conversation the pair had ahead of the move, reports the Express.
Mount meets all of the Dutch manager's demands for what he wants in a midfielder, and his work-rate, creativity, and ability to attack the box will no doubt impress his new boss.
Exactly where Mount fits in remains to be seen, but he has previously stressed that he can play in a deeper role – which he may need to do in order to gain a starting place alongside the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.

“I am always trying to improve,” Mount told The Guardian in 2021. “I feel like I am versatile and can play in a deeper role and obviously in a more forward role. I’m always learning. I’m still young and I’m still learning.
"In terms of the formation, we [England] are versatile as a team. In the modern game, you have to be ready to change if the other team are tactically different to what you have prepared for. We are ready for that definitely. I feel like I can play in any position and I just want to understand, more and more, different positions.”
Mount's view on his own game will come as a boost to Ten Hag's who wants to improve on last season's third-placed finish, with the belief that his new signing can play a big part in making that a reality.
