Mason Greenwood is set to become a dad for the first time weeks after the Manchester United star had attempted rape and assault charges against him dropped.

The 21-year-old was arrested in January last year and charged with attempted rape, assault and coercive behaviour before having all charges dropped earlier this month. Greenwood recently learned that his partner is pregnant, with his family aware and the couple “looking forward” to the baby’s summer arrival.

Over a year on from his initial arrest, Greenwood remains suspended by United despite having all charges against him dropped. United are now carrying out their own investigation before confirming how they plan to proceed with the matter.

He is still under contract with the Red Devils, with his current deal not set to expire until the summer of 2025. Greenwood is understood to want a return to the first-team squad at the earliest opportunity.

The former England international released a statement after having all charges dropped but has not commented on the matter since.

His statement read: "I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support. There will be no further comment at this time."

However, despite Greenwood wanting to make a return to United training, some players have told senior club officials that they have concerns over the forward being allowed to return.

The founder of the United Women’s Supporters’ Club, Natalie Burrell, has said she never wants to see him play for the club again.

She explained, via The Sun: "United need to make a statement and letting him back would be the worst thing they could do. I don’t want to see him training, in a kit, or coming out at Old Trafford again. And I’m confident they won’t (let him)."
