Martin Odegaard snapped in Arsenal shirt as Edu and Mikel Arteta praise transfer

Arsenal: Odegaard joins until end of season

Arsenal star Martin Odegaard has been snapped wearing the club’s colours for the first time. The Norway international has moved to the Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid. And Edu and Mikel Arteta have hailed his arrival.

Arsenal confirmed the arrival of Odegaard on Wednesday morning, saying in a statement: “Norwegian international Martin Odegaard is joining us from Real Madrid on loan for the remainder of the season.”

And he’s now been pictured in the club’s colours for the first time.

Odegaard will wear the No 11 shirt at Arsenal previously worn by Lucas Torreira, with the Uruguay international spending the campaign on loan at Real Madrid.

And the Gunners are confident he can shine in the Premier League, despite enduring a problematic campaign with Madrid so far.

Arsenal supremo Edu has thanked Real Madrid for allowing the playmaker to depart.

“We are delighted to welcome Martin to the club until the end of the season,” he said.

“I would like to thank everyone at Real Madrid and Martin’s representatives for their collaboration in making this loan move happen.

“Martin is an exceptional talent and we are strengthening our squad by introducing an exciting offensive player to the club for the remaining months of this season.”

Mikel Arteta said: “It’s great that we’ve secured Martin to come to us until the end of the season.

“Martin is of course a player that we all know very well and although still young, he has been playing at the top level for a while.

“Martin will provide us with quality offensive options and we’re all excited to be integrating him into our plans between now and May.”

And the player himself admitted Dani Ceballos helped sway him into a move to the capital.

“Yes, [Dani] text me the other day and he had only good things to say about the club, the manager and everything,” Odegaard said.

“That was also important for me and he was happy for me to come here, so that was a good thing for me, to know someone here and to hear from someone inside the club as well. It’s good.

“It has been some hectic days but I’ve been talking to the club, to the manager and it seems like a great project and a great club,” he added.

“I’m just so excited and when I had the chance to come here, I felt like it was a really good chance to take. So I’m really happy to be here.”

Odegaard could make his debut against Manchester United on Saturday.

And Arsenal will be hoping for a repeat of what happened earlier in the season.

They won 1-0 at Old Trafford, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring the only goal of the game.

But United, rather ominously, are yet to lose since.
