Mario Gotze's brother, Felix Gotze, has now left intensive care after a sickening clash of heads left him with a fractured skull.

The 23-year-old was playing for Kaiserslautern against the unbeaten Viktoria Berlin when the incident occurred.

Gotze was stretchered off after 72 minutes and taken straight into the ICU to treat his injuries.

Kaiserslautern were quick to provide an update on his condition, and they revealed the centre-back is 'doing well so far', but he had suffered a hairline fracture.

And Gotze is now out of the ICU, and Kaiserslautern expect the defender to be released from the hospital on Tuesday.

"Good news: Felix Götze is doing better according to the circumstances," the third-tier German side tweeted.

"He is no longer in the intensive care unit & will probably be able to leave the hospital tomorrow. We wish Felix all the best & a full and good recovery."

Following the match, Gotze's manager, Marco Antwerpen, said: “When you see something like that, it naturally takes you with you.

"I saw the boy, he was no longer really responsive. We hope it’s nothing worse."

Mario Gotze, Felix's older brother, currently plays for PSV Eindhoven after leaving Borussia Dortmund last summer.

Gotze scored the winner in the 2014 World Cup final, but health problems have seen a decline in form for the midfielder.

His PSV side are set to take on Benfica, in Lisbon, on Wednesday evening, and, according to De Telegraaf, Gotze is set to travel with the side.

Mario Gotze was spotted in training on Monday following the incident.
