Marcus Rashford fires back at Man Utd ‘rumours’ with five-word social media post

What has gone wrong at Man Utd?

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has hit back at speculation over his future at Old Trafford with a snappy social media post. Rashford has been on the end of mass backlash over the past week for his post-Manchester derby antics, and he has now taken it upon himself to fight back.

The 26-year-old started United’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the end of October as he continued his goal drought, now standing at 10 games.

In the aftermath, since-confirmed reports claimed Rashford had been spotted at a Manchester nightclub just hours after the humiliation at Old Trafford.

A source close to Rashford said he ‘attended an intimate, pre-planned celebration in honour of his birthday at a private area of a Chinawhite organised by his friends’.

He left before close and wasn’t late for training on Monday, but started on the bench in Wednesday’s 3-0 Carabao Cup loss to Newcastle United.

On Friday, United manager Erik ten Hag branded Rashford’s decision to have a public party ‘unacceptable’ but confirmed he had apologised and the matter had been resolved internally.

But speculation – intensified by Rashford’s omission from the squad in Saturday’s 1-0 win against Fulham – has continued to swirl.

The United No 10 travelled and was on the bench at Craven Cottage, but Ten Hag confirmed he wasn’t available for selection after failing a late fitness test.

That didn’t stop looming concerns over his status in the Dutchman’s project among supporters, though. And fan channel ‘The United Stand’ broadcasted a live stream on Monday titled ‘Rashford’s future in doubt?’.

Rashford took to X (formerly Twitter) to blast the post with a short but strong message, replying: “Please STOP spreading malicious rumours.”

He’s been widely praised for his reaction across the fanbase and firmly retains the support of millions on his mission to rediscover his devastating 2022/23 form.

Rashford struck a career-best 30 goals last season, heavily contributing to Ten Hag’s successful maiden campaign as United manager.

But he has scored just once this term, the opening goal in the Red Devils’ 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The England international has shown glimmers of quality, especially while growing a partnership with £72million striker Rasmus Hojlund. But his inconsistency has been fitting of United’s fortunes so far this term.

Ten Hag will hope Rashford is fit to return in Wednesday’s crucial Champions League trip to FC Copenhagen, though. There wouldn’t be a much better time to start finding the net again.
