Marco Asensio ‘is set to join PSG this summer’ as he prepares to leave Real Madrid on a free transfer and sign an £8.5m-a-year deal in Paris… coming as a major blow to Aston Villa in their pursuit of the Spain forward
- Marco Asensio has won 17 major honours in a glittering stay at the Bernabeu
- A contract renewal had been discussed with Real Madrid since the start of 2023
- Karim Benzema ‘could be set to leave Real and re-unite with Cristiano Ronaldo’
Marco Asensio is set to join Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his current contract at Real Madrid, according to reports.
The Spanish international has spent eight seasons on the books at the Santiago Bernabeu, but his deal is due to expire at the club this summer.
The forward will not be renewing with Los Blancos, and instead is believed to be bound for the French capital for the next step in his career.
A contract had been discussed with the Spanish giants, with negotiations ongoing since the turn of the year, but has opted against doing so.
He is thought to already have a long-term agreement with PSG in place, although no paperwork has been signed between the two parties.

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa had been hopeful of securing a move for the Spanish international
The proposed deal is believed to earn Asensio £8.5million-a-year (€10m), made up of a base salary and further bonuses, according to the report from The Athletic.
Los Blancos’ season is yet to finish, with their final game of the 2022-23 campaign against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
The Spanish international – who has 35 caps and two goals for La Roja – turned down reported interest from Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
The Villans were believed to be prepared to submit a lucrative alternative offer to that of the French titans, but appear to have ultimately lost out to the Ligue 1 champions.
Emery was keen to add star quality to his attack during the off-season after finishing in a promising seventh position in the Premier League during his first season in charge.
This season the forward added a Copa del Rey to his haul of three Champions Leagues, four Club World Cups, three LaLigas, three UEFA Super Cups, and another trio of Spanish Super Cups.
He first signed for Los Blancos in 2014, before spending the season on loan at Espanyol, since making 285 appearances for Real, contributing 61 goals and 32 assists.
