Manchester United’s interest in Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland is an open secret ahead of the summer transfer window. The Norway international has been in sensational form this season, scoring 35 goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League combined. And his agent, Mino Raiola, has addressed talk about a move.

Manchester United are targeting a new striker ahead of the summer.

Though Edinson Cavani has been in fine form of late, scoring five goals from his last five appearances, his long-term future at Old Trafford is currently up in the air.

United know they can’t rely on Anthony Martial to lead the line, with the France international struggling this term.

And Mason Greenwood is too good on the right wing to play centrally for the time being.

With that the case, it’s understood United would love to sign Haaland when the transfer window reopens this summer.

After scoring 35 goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League combined, the Norway international has established himself as one of the best strikers in world football.

And it was recently stated by AS that United are hoping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s close relationship with Haaland will swing the pendulum in their favour.

The Dortmund striker worked under his compatriot at Molde.

And he previously hailed Solskjaer for helping him evolve into the player he is today, saying: “Solskjaer and I did some practice on finishing. Not just crosses. I remember he taught me some easy rules.

“The first one was one-touch [finishes]. That I don’t use too much power and trying to destroy the goal or the goalie with ball.

“I think that I was thinking about doing that and it was something new that he told me. I trained a bit on that, but without scoring, but at least I had it in my head after that training session.

“He has taught me a lot to be calm, and also be on your toes and come to those situations where the ball is coming.

“It is then you have the chance to score. He deserves a lot of credit for teaching me that.”

Raiola, speaking to AS, has today addressed talk over Haaland’s future – insisting he CAN leave Borussia Dortmund this summer should the right offer come in.

“What we know as of today is that Dortmund spoke extremely solemnly to us and said: ‘We are not selling him’. That’s the situation, definitely,” he said.

“That’s what they’ve said. Now let’s see if that desire is still there through to the 1st of September.

“Today, the official stance of Dortmund is this. But I’ve got another view, I think that if a good opportunity comes up and everyone would be happy, we’ll put it on the table.”

He also expressed a belief Haaland hasn’t yet made up his mind regarding his next move.

“Haaland is interested in two things: Scoring goals, because he’s a little bit like Cristiano [Ronaldo] or Zlatan [Ibrahimovic]… it’s his obsession, in a positive way. And winning titles,” he said.

“No doubt he’ll pick somewhere where he feels those two things go together best for him.

“It’s really hard to lie. When a club like Barcelona or Real Madrid comes in for you, with so much history and being such a big club, it’s hard to say no.

“PSG is getting into this group of big clubs, City is trying, Juve have always been there.

“The league they play in is important too.

“PSG plays in the worst league of the big clubs. Bayern are in an attractive league, but we know they always win it. In Spain there are three clubs with a chance.”

Haaland isn’t the only player being linked with a move to United.

West Ham’s Declan Rice and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane have also emerged as targets, with both players impressing this term.
