Manchester United will NOT appeal Casemiro's red card
Manchester United will NOT appeal Casemiro’s red card he received for his rash challenge in Sunday’s 0-0 draw against Southampton, with the Brazilian midfielder to serve a four-match ban
- Manchester United have decided not to appeal Casemiro’s latest red card
- The club did not feel there was a high enough probability of winning an appeal
- Casemiro will now miss a key run of games while he serves a four-match ban
Manchester have decided not to appeal against Casemiro’s red card in Sunday’s goalless draw with Southampton at Old Trafford.
United felt there wasn’t a high enough probability of overturning the decision, and the Brazil midfielder will now serve a four-match domestic ban.
Casemiro misses this weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final clash with Fulham and the Premier League games against Newcastle, Brentford and Everton.
He was sent off by Anthony Taylor for a foul on Carlos Alcaraz in the 32nd minute after the referee initially showed a yellow card but was advised by VAR official Andre Marriner to review the decision on a pitch-side monitor.
Casemiro received an extra match on top of the automatic three-game ban because it was his second red card of the season, having been sent off against Crystal Palace in February.

It is also the 31-year-old’s third suspension of the season after he incurred a one-match ban for picking up five yellow cards. He will have missed half of United’s last 16 domestic games by the time he has served the latest ban.
Despite accepting the punishment, manager Erik ten Hag was critical of Casemiro’s sending-off and the inconsistency of VAR in intervening in on-field decisions.
‘It is inconsistent,’ he said, after Sunday’s match. ‘The referees are coming at the start of the season with a policy: we are the Premier League, we want intensity and Casemiro, across European games, over 500 (games), he never had a red card but now twice. He plays tough but he’s fair.
‘Same as against Crystal Palace, so it’s very debatable. When you freeze it (the tackle) it looks bad. Everyone who knows something about football, knows what is bad, what is fair and Casemiro is a fair player. Tough, but fair, and it shows over 500 games in big leagues and he was never sent off. He’s disappointed.’
