Manchester United transfer news: Borussia Dortmund slash Jadon Sancho price to new low
Man Utd not meeting Sancho asking price is ‘bizarre’ says Cross
Manchester United can sign Jadon Sancho for £88million in the summer transfer window after Borussia Dortmund slashed their asking price, according to reports. The England international was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top target back in August and October. However, they were forced to settle for the signing of Edinson Cavani instead after being priced out of a deal.
United wanted to sign Sancho in 2017, back when Jose Mourinho was manager.
But they ended up missing out on the 20-year-old, who decided to join Borussia Dortmund instead having been swayed by the guarantee of first team football.
Then, last summer, United tried again.
Solskjaer made it clear to Ed Woodward that he felt Sancho would be a crucial asset to his side, one capable of shining alongside Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial in attack.
But the Red Devils ended up being priced out of a deal.
United wanted to sign Sancho but were unwilling to pay Dortmund’s £108m asking price, a fee that would have made the England international the costliest signing in the club’s history.

And, now, BILD claim Dortmund have slashed the player’s asking price.
They now want £88m to part ways with their prized asset, with their stance changing due to their need to balance the books in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.
Dortmund are expecting losses of £66m due to the pandemic and, by selling Sancho, that would make their financial situation far healthier.

And whether United now go back in for Sancho remains to be seen.
Solskjaer is happy with his options in attack, while the club believe they’ve struck gold with the arrivals of Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo.
Furthermore, the 47-year-old’s focus appears to have shifted.
Solskjaer is a huge admirer of Sancho’s Dortmund team-mate Erling Haaland, despite being snubbed by his compatriot in the January transfer window of 2019.
Haaland hasn’t burned his bridges with the Red Devils despite that rejection and Woodward is primed to try and sign him at the end of the campaign.
And Solskjaer also wants a long-term defensive partner for Harry Maguire.
Real Madrid, West Ham and RB Leipzig players Raphael Varane, Declan Rice and Dayot Upamecano all on their radar at the current moment in time.
And, as things stand, the prospects of Sancho moving to Old Trafford still seem somewhat unlikely.
Former United star Louis Saha recently opened up on Sancho and expressed a belief he should still be pursued, despite blowing hot and cold for Dortmund this season.
“It’s unfortunate Man United couldn’t get deals in place for Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho last summer because they are two amazing players,” he told Ladbrokes.
“I know less about Grealish but I think he would have fitted perfectly into this team.
“But for me, I’m sorry, Sancho is just such an unbelievable player.
“He’s unpredictable, he’s such a great talent and if he was playing for United with Bruno Fernandes, you just know as a striker you’re going to score goals because of the two of those.
“Man United did miss out on the two of them in the summer, but hopefully they’ll have another chance to sign them soon.
“My choice of the two would be Sancho over Grealish.
“Both are amazing players and they’d improve any side. They’re so confident and would be really useful for Man United’s strikers.
“Fernandes has done a great job in helping United since arriving earlier this year, so could you imagine what another player of his level would do to the team?”
