Manchester United 'to table £50m bid for Chelsea star Mason Mount'
Man United ‘to table £50m bid for Chelsea’s Mason Mount’… but think it is ‘unlikely’ they will get Harry Kane despite the Spurs talisman being their ‘No 1 target’
- Manchester United will reportedly table a £50m offer to sign Mason Mount
- But while talks have begun with Chelsea, they think Harry Kane bid will fail
- Kane is thought to want to stay in England, but Spurs will be reluctant to sell
Manchester United have reportedly planned to table a £50m offer to get Mason Mount from Chelsea, but think their efforts to get Harry Kane from Spurs are unlikely to succeed.
Widespread speculation has linked both England stars to Erik ten Hag’s side this summer, as the Red Devils look to build on their third place finish in the Premier League, and their Carabao Cup success.
But a new report suggests that while one is close to being finalised – with personal terms not an issue for either party – the other is not expected to materialise.
The Telegraph report that Man United are set to make a £50m offer for Mount this month, believing it to be a fair valuation of a player with just one year left on his Chelsea contract, and the Blues out of European football next season.
The West London side are also keen to generate income by June 30 to ease their Financial Fair Play concerns, after spending big in the first two transfer windows under new ownership helmed by Todd Boehly.

But the Red Devils expect their pursuit of Tottenham’s Harry Kane to be fruitless in the end
Negotiations between Chelsea and Man United were instigated following their meeting in the penultimate Premier League game for both sides.
However, Man United think they will fall short on agreeing a deal for Harry Kane, because Tottenham Hotspur are reluctant to sell to English rivals.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are heavily interested in using the England captain to fill the vacancy left behind by Karim Benzema upon his exit from the Bernabeu – although Kane wants to keep playing in the Premier League.
Kane – like Mount – is also in his last year of his contract, but Spurs are hopeful the 29-year-old will sign an extension at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Kane is Erik ten Hag’s top target for Man United, with Mount also highly rated by the boss
He remains Man United’s number one target, although ten Hag’s side are considering alternatives if a deal cannot be struck with the North London club.
The speculation about Mount’s future at Chelsea was also discussed on Sky Sports ahead of Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix, with Ben Chilwell reportedly confirming that his Chelsea teammate was heading to Old Trafford.
However, when asked about the situation, Mount evaded the question, and instead focused on his enjoyment for the upcoming race – which was won by Max Verstappen.
Fellow Chelsea colleague Reece James said: ‘If he goes, everyone will be sad to see him go.’
