Manchester United star decides to leave club in January transfer window
Donny van de Beek has decided to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window and is already exploring his options away from Old Trafford.
The Dutchman joined the club from Ajax in 2020 for a fee of £34million but he’s started just four Premier League matches for the Red Devils.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has repeatedly insisted that the midfielder has a future at the club but he’s failed to come through with his promise of more game time for the midfielder this term.
Van de Beek has remained professional at the Theatre of Dreams and he’s said to ‘love’ the club’s fans but he’s been left out of the Netherlands’ last two international squads and he’s worried about his international future.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Van de Beek has therefore made up his mind to leave the club in January and he’s already looking at offers elsewhere.
Unless there’s a sudden and unexpected change of events, Van de Beek will look to move to a club in Spain or Italy – though Newcastle United have also been touted as an option.
United are in a strong position given the midfielder has over three years to run on his deal but his stock has plummeted given he’s barely kicked a ball in 18 months.
Real Madrid had been the favourites to sign the former Ajax man before the pandemic hit but it’s unclear whether the Spaniards could afford him now, even if their interest remains.
United are swamped for options in midfield, though they’re likely to lose Paul Pogba at the end of the season, while Nemanja Matic could also leave.
