The Red Devils have moved quickly to secure a replacement for Martin Dubravka, who was recalled by Newcastle United last week.

Butland, 29, was once tipped to become England’s long-term number one but he suffered a devastating ankle injury in 2016 that kept him out for over a year.

The former England ace has six months left on his deal at Selhurst Park and the Eagles have agreed to let him join United on loan for the rest of the season.

The Red Devils had considered Butland last summer before agreeing to sign Dubravka.

Erik ten Hag had explored the option of recalling Dean Henderson from his loan at Nottingham Forest but the club decided it was not in his long-term interests.

But the Athletic report that Butland has agreed to join the Red Devils and will undergo a medical in the north-west today.

Butland retains a property in the Manchester area after keeping the property he lived in during his time at Stoke City.
