Manchester United prioritise new position after difficult Kieran Trippier talks

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will prioritise signing a new midfielder this summer ahead of a move for Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier.

United are keen on signing the England right-back but they’ve been put off by Atletico’s £30m asking price.

Trippier is similarly keen to return to the Premier League and he’s made it clear to the La Liga giants that he’d like to join United but Diego Simeone’s side are seeking a profit on the £20m they paid Tottenham for his services in 2018.

Solskjaer feels Aaron Wan-Bissaka needs competition for his spot and that Trippier’s expertise in the final third makes him the perfect acquisition.

But with Atletico proving difficult to negotiate with, the Manchester Evening News claim United’s preference has switched to signing a new central midfielder.

Paris Saint-Germain are keen on signing Paul Pogba and as the Frenchman has just a year to run on his deal at Old Trafford, United are reluctantly open to selling the midfielder.

The 28-year-old has shown little desire to sign fresh terms at Old Trafford and the club do not want to lose him on a free transfer next summer.

Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez is a reported target for Solskjaer, while Eduardo Camavinga is another on the shortlist.

West Ham’s Declan Rice is considered the ideal acquisition but the Hammers want £100m for the England international, which United are not willing to pay.
