Manchester United weren’t at their best against Everton in Saturday’s Premier League showdown. The Red Devils took the lead through Anthony Martial, who opened his account for the campaign. But they were forced to settle for a point, with Andros Townsend on target.

Manchester United went into their match against Everton looking to bounce back.

After failing to beat Aston Villa in their last Premier League game, losing 1-0 at Old Trafford, they produced another mixed performance.

Martial put United ahead in the first half, with the France international breaking the deadlock with a powerful strike.

But Townsend hit back in the second half, celebrating by mimicking Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘Siuuu’ celebration.

It was another flat showing from United, so Express Sport will now take a look at three players who need dropping in the aftermath of the contest.

Victor Lindelof

With Harry Maguire injured, this was another chance for Victor Lindelof to shine.

But he didn’t, with the Sweden international putting in an erratic performance.

When Maguire plays, he gives off the aura of a player difficult to beat.

But, with Lindelof, it’s a different story entirely. Sometimes, on days like this, he’s an accident waiting to happen.

Eric Bailly, sitting and watching on from the bench, may be due for a call-up if Maguire stays sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Fred

This was yet another day where Fred failed to deliver.

For Everton’s equaliser, he should have done better by going through his man and forcing the ball to go out of play.

But the Brazil international was far too soft in the tackle and, as a result, Townsend was able to score.

It’s certainly debatable whether Scott McTominay has the attributes to play as a defensive-midfielder in this team.

But Fred’s hit and miss displays are forcing Solskjaer’s hand. The January transfer window, certainly, can’t come quick enough.

Edinson Cavani

Don’t get us wrong, nothing about this setback was down to Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguay international fared well up top but the brutal fact of the matter is that he’s not Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo carries an aura, a fear factor, a feeling that anything can happen.

And it’s unfortunate that Cavani’s selection came at the expense of the 36-year-old.

Solskjaer may have to find a way of playing them together. But, because he normally goes with just one centre-forward, that has to be Ronaldo. And that’s a shame.

Fernandes reacts to Everton draw

Speaking after United’s draw, Bruno Fernandes admitted he was disappointed.

”We should win this game. We should create more chances,” he said.

“We should not concede that kind of goal. It’s not the first time and we have to look at our mistakes and see what we can do.

“We don’t look at the league table at this moment but of course we should have more points. We drop points at home and we should not do that.

“These last two games at home was not good enough in the Premier League. If we want silverware at the end of the season we have to do much better.”
