Manchester United want Erling Haaland. The problem is, however, that Borussia Dortmund want a fee of £156million to part ways with their prized asset this summer. But, in Donny van de Beek, the Red Devils may have the perfect way of driving the striker’s price down.
Manchester United are currently flying high under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
They had a rough start to the season, losing two of their first three league matches, but have since bounced back impressively.
United are on course to finish second in the Premier League table, something that’s only happened once since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
And they’re also still in the hunt for Europa League glory, recently navigating their way past Granada to make the semi-finals of that competition.
Solskjaer knows, however, that his side require more.
And he’s determined to bring Haaland to Old Trafford this summer, regardless of what happens with Edinson Cavani’s future.

The Norway international is a wanted man across world football having scored 31 goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League combined this term.
Chelsea are hot on his heels, with Thomas Tuchel targeting an upgrade on Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud and Timo Werner.
Barcelona, despite their economic situation looking bleak at present, are also in the mix.
Manchester City have said publicly they’re not after Haaland but, behind the scenes at the Etihad Stadium, it’s a different story.
And while Real Madrid’s preference would be to sign Kylian Mbappe, Haaland is on their radar as well.
United, for their part, have insisted they won’t be breaking the bank for signings this summer. Some might even argue they don’t need to, with the club very much on the up.

Yet, in Van de Beek, they may have the perfect way of driving Haaland’s price tag down.
When he signed from Ajax in the summer transfer window, big things were expected of the Netherlands international given his obvious talents.
But his time at the club stooped to a new low on Thursday night, with the midfielder left on the bench for the visit of minnows Granada.
Even on a night where United were always going to cruise through, it seems as though Solskjaer doesn’t trust him. If he does, surely he’d play more?
One solution may be a move away from the club. Van de Beek is a brilliant player, one who deserves to play regularly.
With Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes ahead of him in the pecking order, and Jesse Lingard potentially coming back, his chances of regular action may be even more restricted next term.
Yet Dortmund, it’s been reported, are open to taking Van de Beek on board.
This was reported by 90min last month, with the publication saying they’d be happy to take the midfielder to the Westfalenstadion at the end of the campaign.
United still consider Van de Beek to be worth the same £40million fee they paid for him back in the summer.
And that would chalk some of Haaland’s huge price tag off, albeit leaving them with plenty of work to do to strike a blockbuster deal.
Several other players could be sold to free up funds, however.
David De Gea may be cut loose, with the Spain international currently below Dean Henderson in the pecking order. For the club’s best-paid player, that won’t do.
Paul Pogba is another potentially primed to depart. He’s yet to sign a new contract with the club, while his current deal expires next year.
And it wouldn’t be a surprise to see United offload Anthony Martial given the France international’s struggles this term.
Haaland to United is something that is bound to dominate the headlines this summer.
And what ultimately happens is something only time will tell.
