Manchester United are ready to go back in for Jadon Sancho in this summer’s transfer window. Reports claim the Borussia Dortmund star is back in the orbit of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the Red Devils planning a £77million bid. So Express Sport will now take a look at four shirt numbers that he could wear if he moves to Old Trafford.

Number 12

The majority of United’s good shirt numbers are occupied.

It’s hard to see Edinson Cavani vacating the No 7 shirt, likewise Anthony Martial with No 9, Mason Greenwood No 10 and Mason Greenwood No 11.

So the lowest currently available shirt number is No 12.

It was last worn by Chris Smalling during his time at Old Trafford, with the England international winning two Premier League titles during his spell with the club.

And Sancho will hope to do the same if he swaps the Westfalenstadion for the Theatre of Dreams at the end of the campaign.

Number 15

While it’s occupied by Andreas Pereira at present, the No 15 shirt is expected to become available.

United are primed to cut the Brazil international loose, with the midfielder failing to convince at Roma this term.

And it’s feasible Sancho will take the No 15 jersey should that happen, as expected.

While not a glamorous number, it has been worn by club legends Nemanja Vidic, Nicky Butt, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes in the past.

Other occupiers such as Luke Chadwick, Kleberson and Adnan Januzaj all failed to do it justice, however.

Number 16

The No 16 has been worn by some big United players over the years.

Michael Carrick was one, Roy Keane is another and the likes of Neville and Butt have also taken it on in the past.

It’s currently vacant after the departure of Marcos Rojo, who was allowed to leave the club for Boca Juniors back in February.

And Sancho could be the latest A-lister to give it a go.

Again, it’s not exactly glamorous. But with so many other jerseys taken, he may have no choice.

Number 20

The No 20 shirt is another special one over at Old Trafford.

Diogo Dalot and Sergio Romero haven’t exactly sparkled with it on their back during their times at the club, with both players set to be sold this summer.

But Solskjaer and Robin van Persie did.

Sancho would be following in the footsteps of two of the club’s greatest-ever players if he decides to take it on.

And the Dortmund star seems to have the confident required to live up to its history and take the Premier League by storm.

Sancho’s recent comments

United’s hopes of signing Sancho may hinge on whether Dortmund qualify for the Champions League.

They’re currently fourth in the Bundesliga table and need to stay there if they’re to rub shoulders with the European elite next term.

And Sancho refused to grant any assurances over his future when speaking over the weekend.

“I don’t know about my future,” he said.

“I am very happy here in Dortmund at the moment. I love the club, the fans and the team. They gave me my first professional start.”
