Manchester United chief Richard Arnold is keen on the idea of hiring Erik ten Hag as the club’s next manager, according to reports. Despite players preferring Mauricio Pochettino, it appears the current Ajax boss is seen as the right choice to reawaken a sleeping giant. So Express Sport will now take a look at the players the club have already signed who will be perfect for the Dutchman if he does indeed move to Old Trafford.

Jadon Sancho

United have failed to see the best from Jadon Sancho this season.

Signed from Borussia Dortmund for a massive £73million in the summer, it would be no understatement to say the forward has endured a slow start to life at the club.

However, in recent weeks, Sancho has looked back to his Bundesliga best.

He’s been the shining light in recent draws with Burnley and Southampton and there’s a sense that, finally, he’s coming good.

Ten Hag loves working with younger players and Sancho, with the world at his feet, would be the perfect player for the Dutchman to manage.

Amad

United have signed Amad back in the summer transfer window of 2020, before officially welcoming him to the club in January last year.

He’s barely been given a chance at Old Trafford, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regularly overlooking him during his time in the dugout.

Yet Amad, like Sancho, is a player with the potential to be an A-lister in the coming years ahead.

The Ivory Coast international has made a promising start to life at Rangers, with the forward absolutely unplayable in the Gers’ 3-0 win over Annan Athletic on Saturday.

And he’s another who could benefit from Ten Hag’s track record of working with young players.

Hannibal Mejbri

Ten Hag has helped mould playmaker Davy Klaassen into a better midfielder than he was at Everton.

So just think what he can do with young talent Hannibal Mejbri?

Recruited from Monaco back in 2019, when Solskjaer was boss, the Morocco international has already featured for his country and been tipped for the very top.

With Bruno Fernandes ahead of him in the pecking order, game time has been hard to come by.

Yet Hannibal, like Amad and Sancho, can be optimistic of getting more chances if Ten Hag is given the keys to the Theatre of Dreams.

Diogo Dalot

Ten Hag has worked wonders with his full-backs over the years.

Serginho Dest was transformed into a world-class right-back before the Netherlands international joined Barcelona back in the summer.

Nicolas Tagliafico, too, has been developed into a fine full-back on the opposite flank.

Therefore, Ten Hag could feasibly get Diogo Dalot operating at the peak of his powers.

The former Porto star is better going forward than he is tracking back yet the appointment of the current Ajax boss could help bring more balance to his game.

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw showed signs of finally fulfilling his potential under Solskjaer last season.

Yet the England international has regressed this term, sometimes falling below Alex Telles in the club’s pecking order.

But the way Ten Hag has improved Tagliafico over at Ajax bodes well for his future.

Shaw has all the attributes required to become one of the best left-backs in world football again.

And time is running out, with the player having been at Old Trafford since touching down from Southampton in 2014.
