Manchester United have given Mason Greenwood a new contract. And the club’s faith in the youngster suggests a potential deal for Jadon Sancho may now be shelved for good. The Red Devils have other areas in need of addressing and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may now prioritise those when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.
United have tied Greenwood down until 2025, with the club announcing the new contract on their website.
The 19-year-old, who has scored just one Premier League goal this season, said: “Obviously, I’m very happy.
“I’ve been here since the age of seven, you know, so to sign another contract, it’s like I say, every single one is a dream come true.
“I always want to be here. Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to be in the first-team and stay as long as possible really, win trophies and do the best I can here.”
Furthermore, Greenwood has recognised the faith United have shown in him.
“Yeah, obviously it shows the faith and I think they’ve been impressed at the end of last season,” added the England international.

“I’ll do my best to get up to those standards again this season.
“Obviously learning off the likes of Edi [Edinson Cavani], who has come into the team and been very important, so I’m watching him every single day and listening to Kieran [McKenna] and Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] and all the coaching staff.”
For United, it’s definitely a wise move.

Greenwood may have struggled this term but there have been signs of improvement in recent weeks, particularly in home matches against Everton and West Ham.
And that United have now ensured they keep hold of the 19-year-old could lead to them changing their mind on Sancho.
The England international is still a Solskjaer transfer target, despite the Norwegian missing out on a deal back in the summer.
Reports have suggested Borussia Dortmund are far more likely to cut him loose this summer than they ever were last year.
But with United now having Greenwood for the long-term, as well as Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani on their books, they may now switch focus.
Solskjaer has seen Martial misfire this term and the club are yet to extend Cavani’s contract, despite the Uruguay international sparkling.
United could feasibly, therefore, swoop for a new striker instead of Sancho – with Erling Haaland likely to be of interest.
Solskjaer has long admired his compatriot and, speaking recently, insisted he was keeping a close eye on the Norway international’s progress.
Asked if their previous relationship could help United compete for his signature, Solskjaer told Norwegian newspaper VG: “It’s quite certain Erling will have a fantastic career and I have always said that.
“I follow Erling closely. Was it 18 months we spent together or thereabouts? Almost two years maybe. It was a fantastic time.
“He will definitely have a super career both for Norway and for his club. He’s doing incredibly well for Dortmund, so we have to see where he ends up.
“As a Norwegian and someone who has worked with him, of course it’s great to see he is doing so well.”
United may also now shelve interest in Sancho to sign a new centre-back.
Solskjaer has been left unconvinced by Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe and is consequently on the lookout for reinforcements.
Real Madrid pair Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos have been linked, as well as Brighton’s Ben White and RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konte.
But Jules Kounde appears to be the club’s preferred transfer target, with reports suggesting they’re willing to spend £61million on landing him.
Another priority for United could be in midfield, despite the plethora of options they have there.
They could swoop for an anchorman to replace the ageing and waning Nemanja Matic, with Declan Rice under consideration behind the scenes
And it seems that, by tying Greenwood down, Sancho now seems further away than ever before.
He’s still expected to leave Dortmund behind come the summer but, in the wake of this new development, United might not be his next club.
