The Red Devils finished behind Real Sociedad in the group stages and they therefore have to face another round of fixtures before they can enter the last-16.
Erik ten Hag’s side could have faced any of the sides that finished third in the Champions League group stages, including Ajax and Juventus.
But they’ve been handed arguably the toughest draw of the lot in the form of Spanish giants Barcelona.
The La Liga club were knocked out of the Champions League after being drawn in a group with Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.
Xavi’s side have been in impressive form domestically, losing just once so far this term.
It will be an opportunity for Ten Hag to finally reunite with Frenkie de Jong, who rejected a move to Old Trafford last summer.
The first leg of the play-off is set to be played at the Camp Nou before United host the reverse fixture.
Lisandro Martinez will miss the trip to Spain through suspension.
The two legs will be played on Thursday 16 and Thursday 23 February, with the winners going into the draw for the Round of 16 on Friday 24 February.
