Manchester United could only draw against Chelsea in their Premier League showdown on Sunday. It was a disappointing day for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who felt as though his side should have been given a penalty after Callum Hudson-Odoi appeared to handle in the box. So Express Sport will now take a look at the three players who let him down.

Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes has been nothing short of sensational ever since arriving at United from Sporting Lisbon in the January transfer window of 2020.

But, against the big teams, he struggles.

The 26-year-old wasn’t at his best against Chelsea, cutting a virtually anonymous figure throughout the showdown at Stamford Bridge.

He created just one chance over the course of 90 minutes and was easily nullified by Blues pair N’Golo Kante and Matteo Kovacic.

It seems even the best have room for improvement.

Marcus Rashford

Another big performer for United this season has been Marcus Rashford.

The England international has scored 18 goals across all competitions, with only Fernandes scoring more.

But, for Rashford, Chelsea was an afternoon to forget.

He huffed and puffed over the duration of the game but, after colliding with the advertising boards, appeared to lose his spark.

Rashford still goes missing in certain big matches and, like Fernandes, must improve against the Premier League’s ‘top six’ clubs.

Scott McTominay

United have seen Scott McTominay become their Mr Dependable under Solskjaer.

He was vital in matches against Chelsea last season, starting all three victories over the Blues in the Premier League (x2) and the Carabao Cup.

But McTominay appeared to have been rushed back for Sunday’s fixture.

He looked leggy throughout the match and should have been taken off far sooner, especially after misplacing a glorious pass in the closing stages.

This was a day where United missed Paul Pogba and his deputy didn’t have the same impact as the France international, producing a flat display in the draw.

Solskjaer on penalty incident

The biggest talking point from the match in west London was Stuart Attwell’s decision not to give a penalty to United.

Callum Hudson-Odoi appeared to handle the ball inside the box and Solskjaer, speaking afterwards, criticised the call.

“Yep, 100 per cent.” he said.

“Especially when they stop it and he walks across to watch it. Even from here you think it’s a handball and it’s our player that does it.

“But when you look at it from the video, it’s taken two points from us.”

Tuchel on penalty incident

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has, rather predictably, insisted United were right not to be given a penalty.

“How can this be an intervention?” said the German, who is yet to lose since taking over from Frank Lampard in January.

“The player in red plays the ball with his hand and then we are checking for a penalty.

“Why does the referee have to see this? You watch it for one second on the pad, or you watch it on the field live and then I see it on the pad, why does the referee need to see this?

“He does everything right, I don’t understand why he needs to check it but I’m glad it’s no penalty because that would be even worse.”
