Manchester United’s board think their chances of signing Erling Haaland haven’t been hindered by the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, reports claim. The Norway international is the club’s top transfer target for next summer’s window. And despite other clubs being keen, the Red Devils are hopeful they can win the race for the player’s signature.
Manchester United came close to signing Haaland in the January transfer window of 2020.
They believed the Norway international would join at a time where he was sparkling for Red Bull Salzburg over in Austria.
However, in the end, United missed out after being left unhappy by the terms proposed by the player’s agent, Mino Raiola.
Despite that, though, United remain hopeful of signing Haaland in the future – especially given his sensational form for Borussia Dortmund.
And the Manchester Evening News say figures on the club’s board don’t believe Solskjaer’s exit will harm their chances of striking a deal.
Solskjaer previously managed the 21-year-old at Molde in Norway and, prior to his sacking last month, had been planning to pursue him.

Though he’s no longer in charge, the Red Devils are going to chase him down anyway.
Ralf Rangnick previously oversaw the Norwegian’s rise to prominence at Salzburg, playing a key role in the marksman’s move from Molde in 2018.
And Rangnick is keen to bring Haaland to Old Trafford, whether he’s manager or working upstairs.
There is, however, a few complications – with one being the interest of other elite clubs, too.
Chelsea signed Romelu Lukaku in the summer for £105million but, despite that, remain keen on landing Haaland as well.
Barcelona have been financially hit over the past 18 months yet they, too, are eyeing a summer deal for the forward.

Real Madrid’s preference is to sign Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer.
But with Florentino Perez always on the lookout for football’s biggest names, a move to the Bernabeu can’t be ruled out.
Manchester City are also lurking, especially with Pep Guardiola likely to drop interest in Harry Kane given his poor Tottenham form.
And Paris Saint-Germain can’t be ruled out, either, particularly with Mbappe looking poised to leave the Parc des Princes behind.
Another obstacle is Raiola.
United were once ready to dance to the super-agent’s tune, signing clients such as Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in 2016.
But Raiola has regularly criticised the club and that makes any move to Old Trafford problematic.
Speaking earlier this year, meanwhile, Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness urged United to sign Haaland.
“If they could get either Erling Haaland or Harry Kane, they would become real contenders,” he said before Cristiano Ronaldo returned to the club.
“If you pushed me, I’d go for Kane, who turns 28 this summer, because he’s a proven performer in the Premier League and still has several years left at his peak.
“The only question mark is the ankle injuries he seems susceptible to.
“With Haaland, who is only 20, you will pay a premium for his enormous potential.
“We’ve seen Kai Havertz and Timo Werner do well in Germany, then come to Chelsea and find life more difficult in England.
“Will Haaland be like that? I don’t think so, because he’s more powerful and aggressive than they are, but he didn’t score in the two games against City and it’s a possibility.
“Would he be open to moving to Old Trafford? Maybe not, maybe he grew up disliking them because of what happened to his dad, Alf-Inge, who was seriously injured playing against them.”
