- But David Moyes now looks set to sign the attacking midfielder on loan
Jesse Lingard is on the brink of sealing a loan move to West Ham from Manchester United after a day of strained negotiations.
The deal between the clubs was called to a halt earlier in the evening with United asking for a £1.5million loan fee plus Lingard’s £80,000-a-week wages for the rest of the season.
United even took the step of notifying other clubs that Lingard was still available as agreement with West Ham looked unlikely.

However, with Lingard’s preference to join West Ham, the clubs took steps to resolve the issues and finally reached a middle ground over the 28-year-old.
Newcastle and West Brom were both notified but have been making headway on other targets.
Lingard’s preference was the move to London Stadium as he pursues regular first-team football.

There is room on West Ham’s books for Lingard as their second domestic loan space is available again having agreed to sign Said Benrahma permanently for £25m.
Craig Dawson is the other loanee but Lingard could in theory become the second.
Moyes, who knows the 24-cap England midfielder from his time at Old Trafford, believes he can rejuvenate the 28-year-old’s form.
He is well out of the reckoning at United and wants exposure to first-team football in the second half of the season.
