Manager says his players must "rape or get raped" in order to win a penalty
An English football manager has claimed his players must "rape or get raped" in order to be awarded a penalty in a bizarre post-match rant.
Stuart Baxter – who is currently in charge of Indian side Odisha – made the comments after his team lost 1-0 to Jamshedpur leaving them rock bottom of the Indian Super League with just eight points from 14 games.
Baxter cut a frustrated figure after the game and lamented refereeing decisions during the course of the match.
"You need decisions to go your way, and they didn't," he said.
"I don't know when we are going to get a penalty. I think one of my players will have to rape someone or get raped himself if he was going to get a penalty."
Odisha have since distanced themselves from the comments made be the 67-year-old, who has previously managed South Africa and Finland on the international stage.
"The club is appalled at the comments made by Head Coach, Stuart Baxter during the post-match interview today," they said in a statement.
"It is completely unacceptable whatever the context and does not reflect the values of the club. We, at Odisha FC, unreservedly apologise and the club management will handle this matter internally."
Baxter was born in Wolverhampton and is the son of former Wolves and Aston Villa player Bill Baxter.
He played for Preston, Morecambe and Stockport in the English leagues before moving abroad later in his playing career.
Baxter begun his time in management with Orebro SK in Sweden in 1985 and has travelled round the world as a boss, including a stint with England Under-19s between 2002 and 2004.
