Man Utd’s transfer promise to Coman ahead of Solskjaer’s summer overhaul
Manchester United have reportedly promised to make Kingsley Coman their fifth-highest earner as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plots his summer transfer window overhaul.
The Red Devils have enjoyed an encouraging season under Solskjaer, with second place in the Premier League confirmed and the possibility of winning the Europa League this week.
But with United targeting a title challenge next term, reinforcements will be needed if Solskjaer’s men are to close the gap on Manchester City.
One of the areas that will require new recruits is at winger, with Solskjaer yet to find his favoured combination in the three playing behind the main striker.
The search for a winger has led them to Coman, who has remarkable won a league title in every season since he broke into the Paris Saint-Germain first team in 2013.
The Frenchman has enjoyed his most productive season to date in Bayern Munich’s charge to a ninth successive Bundesliga, scoring eight goals and providing 15 assists in all competitions.
He also scored the winner in last season’s Champions League final, but with Leory Sane now providing competition for his spot in the team, Coman could look to depart Germany.
That has attracted the attention of United, who is viewed as an alternative to other targets Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.
But it appears that Coman has moved ahead of those two on United’s shortlist, with BILD reporting that the Red Devils have offered the winger a wage of £200,000 a week after tax.
The 24-year-old is already believed to earn that figure before tax but he “would like to have it in net”.
That has led to United apparently “indicating” that they are willing to meet his demands, which would make him one of the top earners at Old Trafford.
It is set to take a hefty fee to tempt Bayern into a deal, with Coman still having two years left on his current contract.
