Man Utd’s sublime XI if Sheikh Jassim lands three ‘priority’ targets

Ten Hag wants no easing up from Man Utd before end of season

Manchester United takeover hopeful Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani will reportedly go after the French trio of Kylian Mbappe, Kingsley Coman and Eduardo Camavinga this summer if his attempt to buy out the Glazers is successful. Here, Express Sport takes you through how that could transform Erik ten Hag’s starting XI, with Red Devils fans dreaming of fresh backing in the transfer market…

Goalkeeper: De Gea

While United are thought to have tossed and turned over the idea of signing a new stopper before next season, reports indicate that talks have taken place behind the scenes and a new contract for David de Gea is not far away.

The Spaniard is still an elite shot-stopper, but he continues to cause problems in possession and many United fans felt that his disastrous display against Sevilla in the Europa League last month may have been the final nail in his coffin.

With Sheikh Jassim’s goalkeeper preference as yet unknown, the 32-year-old keeps his place here.

Defence: Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Camavinga

Eduardo Camavinga came through the ranks as a teenage midfielder with Rennes, but he has frequently been used by Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti as a left-back during his debut season, where the 20-year-old has been mightily effective.

It remains to be seen where Ten Hag would plan to use the £34million star, who would likely cost significantly more this summer, but with United already stacked in midfield, the youngster’s best shot of making the starting XI could be on the left side of defence.

Elsewhere in the back-line, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is still in a close fight with Diogo Dalot for the right-back spot, while Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane are much more assured as the starting centre-back duo.

Midfield: Casemiro, Fernandes, Eriksen

Although Bruno Fernandes would be the youngest of the three at 28 years old, midfield is one of the strongest areas in United’s squad, with the experience of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen proving a key asset during Ten Hag’s first campaign at Old Trafford.

While Camavinga could make a case to slot into the middle of the park as a more defensive-minded option, the trio in question already have a valuable balance of attributes that should allow United to compete with the best, providing other areas of the squad match up.

Attack: Coman, Mbappe, Rashford

United’s attacking department will need some attention this summer. Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen have been the two most-commonly-linked strikers to Old Trafford in recent weeks, but Bild claim that Sheikh Jassim will try his luck at luring Mbappe away from Paris Saint-Germain, which would surely take an astronomical fee.

Bayern Munich speedster Coman is also believed to be of interest, and pairing the 26-year-old with in-form Marcus Rashford on the opposite flank could have devastating consequences for the Red Devils’ future opponents.
