Manchester United turned down the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo before he was offered to Manchester City, according to reports. The Juventus star is poised to leave Serie A behind. And a move to the Etihad Stadium currently looks to be on the cards.
Manchester United have signed Tom Heaton, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane so far this summer.
But with Manchester City fancying their chances of landing Ronaldo, their transfer window could be poised to end on a low note.
City have held talks with Ronaldo’s representatives over the past few days after missing out on Harry Kane, who is set to stay at Tottenham.
And talkSPORT claim that, before the 36-year-old was offered to Pep Guardiola’s side, he was actually offered to United.
However, the Red Devils said no.

Transfer insider Alex Crook is quoted as saying: “A lot of Manchester United fans are not happy and a lot are suggesting Cristiano Ronaldo would tarnish his legacy at Old Trafford by joining the blue half of the City.
“But if that’s the case, why would Jorge Mendes have even gone to Man City in the first place?
“Presumably his client knows about that and he is keen to make the move.
“What I can tell you is that Jorge Mendes has also been in touch with Manchester United over these last couple of weeks about a possible emotional return to Old Trafford for Ronaldo.
“And United have seemingly closed the door on that one.”

United presumably said no to Ronaldo because of the finances involved.
He currently earns a massive £500,000-a-week with Juventus and the Red Devils aren’t willing to shatter their wage structure in order to bring him back.
Furthermore, they’re well-stocked in attack.
For the No 9 role, they have Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial capable of playing through the middle.
And, out wide, Sancho, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Amad are all options, too.
It now looks like Ronaldo moving to City is genuinely on.
And that will devastate United supporters, many of which have dreamed of the forward coming back home.
Meanwhile, though City have dropped their interest in Kane for the time being, Jamie O’Hara thinks they should still go all out to land the England international.
The former Tottenham star said: “They have to (get him). If they don’t get Kane, they don’t win the Premier League. I don’t think they do.
“I look at the team and think everyone else has caught up with them, in terms of the teams they’ve got.
“You can’t get away with not having a proper No 9 up front.
“You could see yesterday they weren’t good enough to score enough goals.
“They need to sign Harry Kane. It will be disappointing for us, Spurs, if he does go. I will be gutted, but you can see Spurs can cope without Harry Kane.
“Spurs are bigger than Harry Kane. If he goes, the club will move on and we will spend the money and we will move on from the situation.
“We showed yesterday we are good enough without him.”
